Ida Vogel and her colleagues ensure that the examination and treatment of pregnant women is based on the newest diagnostic methods; both in connection with the screening of all pregnant women and for diagnosis in cases where the foetus shows signs of congenital anomalies.

Early diagnosis is also a help for medical doctors, enabling them to provide the best possible treatment in connection with birth and infancy, while also giving pregnant women the opportunity to take any precautionary measures early in the pregnancy if the foetus has e.g. a genetic defect.

In her new position as professor, Ida Vogel wishes to continue working to ensure that prenatal diagnostics in Denmark can maintain its leading position internationally. Denmark’s unique registers and data mean that she and her colleagues are able to carry out research that is impossible – or at best difficult – to do in most other countries. And developments in the field of prenatal diagnostics are followed with considerable interest by both society and the healthcare system.

Ida Vogel takes up the professorship, which is partly financed by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, on 1 October 2019. She will simultaneously continue as head of research at the Center for Fetal Diagnostics.
