Marco Capogna will receive the grant over a 3 year period for a project dedicated to discover the role of GABAergic neuron types of amygdala, hippocampus and prefrontal cortex on sleep and memory. Optogenetic and electrophysiological methods in rodents in vivo will be performed. The project will be a collaboration with the lab of  Ivan Soltesz at Stanford University, California (https://med.stanford.edu/ivansolteszlab/front-page.html), who awarded an NIH Brain initiative grant together with the Brain Prize winner G Buzsaki (NY Univ), A Losonczy (Columbia Univ) and M Schnitzer (Stanford Univ) to define the circuitry underlying sharp wave-mediated memory replay.
