Marie Dahl carries out research into the prevention of cardiovascular disease in women, and since the late 1990s she has been involved in initiating the first preventive initiatives at the Department of Vascular Surgery, Viborg Regional Hospital. Since then she has completed a professional Master's degree programme in Nursing at Deakin University in Australia, and in 2018 she defended her PhD dissertation at the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University.

Research Director Gunnar Gislason from the Danish Heart Foundation explains the grounds for making the award to Marie Dahl with the fact that she stands out as one of Denmark’s only senior nursing researchers in the field of vascular surgery. At the same time, he mentions that Marie Dahl is either author or co-author to a dozen peer-reviewed publications, that she is particularly active in the vascular surgery network, and that she is part of an interdisciplinary research network at Odense University Hospital.
