NSAIDs reduce the risk of skin cancer

2012.06.01 | Tina Christensen

Use of certain pain relieving medication, the so-called NSAIDs, reduces the risk of the three most common types of skin cancer. That is evident from a study conducted by researchers from Department of Clinical Epidemiology and colleagues. The study included 3,242 patients with malignant melanoma, 13,316 patients with basal cell cancer, and 1,974 patients with squamous cell carcinoma. The most protective effect was found in patients who had used NSAIDs for more than seven years.

The study results have just been published in CANCER (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22644960) and have been mentioned on the BBC and Fox News.
