Brian Hansen from AU and AUH has just defended his doctoral dissertation on experimental MRI scans. The methods can be used to study the brain's microscopic structure and could, in the long term, lead to earlier diagnosis of e.g. dementia.

Brian Hansen from the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University and the Centre of Functionally Integrative Neuroscience (CFIN) at Aarhus University Hospital was recently awarded the title of Doctor of Medical Science.
In collaboration with his colleagues, he develops experimental MRI scanning techniques which can examine the microscopic structure of brain tissue. This research is a step on the path to being able to diagnose dementia and other brain diseases earlier, as the techniques are more sensitive than existing methods.
The methods can be used to scan tissue samples and laboratory animals, and some of the methods are already being used on test subjects and patients.
Brian Hansen holds a PhD in physics from Aarhus University from 2007 and can now also add Doctor of Medical Science to his CV.
