The money will go towards continued work on a promising medication for pain in the neural pathways.

Up to 450,000 Danes are today living with pain in the neural pathways, also referred to as neuropathic pain. Pain that feels like it is stabbing, burning or icy. Neuropathy is a chronic disease that has major consequences for the patient's daily life, work capacity and quality of life.

The DKK 18.4 million grant, of which DKK 2.1 million goes to Christian Vægter and his colleagues at AU, will help to ensure that the research group can continue to develop the potential medication HB-086.

HB-086, which is a protein that is only found in the nervous system, has significance for how we restore damaged nerves, while at the same time containing pain-relieving properties in regard to neuropathic pain. The effect of the treatment has already been confirmed in a wide range of studies, and the researchers hope to be able to test the treatment, which has fewer side effects, on clinical patients very soon.
