Construction of the Biomedicine building to be resumed

The high level of nuisance experienced in the surrounding buildings temporarily halted the construction work in mid-November. Work will now begin again on 5 January using a different solution that reduces the amount of noise and vibrations.

The start of construction work on the new Skou Building at the beginning of October certainly did not go unnoticed. The laying of the iron plates for shoring caused much more noise and vibration than expected, which was a great nuisance to the closest neighbours. The construction work was therefore suspended.

The Danish Building and Property Agency has now found an alternative method that reduces noise and vibrations. The shoring work will therefore be resumed on 5 January. This time it will be carried out by an excavator, making it possible to completely avoid any vibration and also significantly reduce noise. The excavation work will take approximately forty days.

Construction noise becomes background noise

The next step in the construction work is a piled foundation and excavation. An alternative and quieter method than originally planned has also been found here which involves drilling rather than driving piles into the ground. This phase of the construction will be completed around May 2015. In the same period there will be increased transport to and from the construction site, as soil and concrete elements have to be delivered and removed.

The work will be performed between 7:00 and 18:00 during weekdays and 8:00 and 14:00 on Saturdays. A large part of the construction activities will not result in increased background noise compared to the normal level of traffic noise in the area.

The changes made to the construction methods have delayed the construction project by a couple of months and the building is now expected to be ready at the beginning of 2017.

New pathway between Vennelyst Boulevard and the University Park

A new pathway connecting Vennelyst Boulevard with the University Park has recently been established to the east of Building 1110. It replaces the pathway on the other side of Building 1110, which will be closed during the construction period for safety reasons.
