TITLE:

Neural Correlates of Spatial Language Processing in Ageing

ABSTRACT:

Accumulative evidence has revealed that several aspects of spatial cognition may deteriorate in ageing, and that these deficits may be associated with structural and functional alterations of the brain. While a few studies have investigated spatial semantics from the neural standpoint, the impact of ageing on different aspects of spatial language processing has not been explored. In the present fMRI study, we will investigate in a group of younger and a group of older adults (1) which brain regions support processing verbal descriptions of spatial relations under different spatial reference frames, and (2) whether potential differences between younger and older adults in spatial language production and comprehension are mediated by age-depended functional and structural changes in the brain.
