Dr. Sands has been awarded an honorary doctorate (Doctorum Medicinae Honoris Causa) from Aarhus University for his contribution to experimental nephrology research, a field in which he is regarded as one of the world’s leading experts. Dr. Sands was honored during the university’s 90th annual celebration in September 2018.

Dr. Sands established his laboratory at Emory University 30 years ago, and has made many important discoveries relating to the way in which the kidneys regulate the transport of urea and water in the different parts of the organs. He has also demonstrated that basic research findings have clinical significance and can be transferred to clinically relevant medical examinations, which he has performed together with colleagues in the US and around the world.

“Regulation of Renal Urea Transport: Implications for Therapy of NDI”
