Title:
Future perspectives on hybrid PET/MR.
Abstract:
The instant clinical succes of PET-CT over standalone PET has focussed much of the attention for the hybrid PET/MR modality on essentially similar areas of application, but with improved soft tissue contrast provided by the MR.
However, there are some unique emerging research application of the hybrid PET/MR modality. Some of these may develop into a clinical applications that are quite different from the current use of the modality. In order to use this new technology to the best of its potential, we need to look beyond FDG and play to the strengths of simultaneous functional acquisition. This in turn has the potential to take PET back to its dynamic roots, and provide an opportunity for improving the quantitative use of MR.
