Afternoon Talk on Gender and Science

Today more women than men receive higher education degrees and an equal number of men and women complete a PhD. Yet, women remain significantly under-represented in senior and leadership positions in academia.

In recent years, higher education policies in Denmark and beyond have prompted structural change to promote gender equality in science, but the pace of change remains low. What are the actual consequences of gender bias across different areas of science? What could be achieved by ensuring gender diversity? And which mechanisms could be employed to change the situation. The speakers are both actively researching gender equality in science and will be sharing results from their work.

Speakers: Mathias Wullum Nielsen, assistant professor, Department of Political Science, Danish Centre for Studies in Research and Research Policy and Lea Skewes, PhD fellow, School of Culture and Society, Interacting Minds Centre.
