Afternoon Talk on Interdisciplinary Collaboration

It is increasingly recognized that research should address societal challenges and produce social, economic, environmental, industrial and democratic benefits. It is also increasingly argued that in order to maximize the problem-solving capacity of research, there is a need to foster increased collaboration across scientific disciplines.

But how can meaningful collaboration across scientific disciplines be promoted? What are the roles of research leaders, university managers and funding organizations in that respect? Under which conditions can researchers be mobilized to pursue collaboration outside of their own academic domain? And are there transaction costs and risks concerning loss of academic impact that should be considered? Finally, what are the challenges in multi-disciplinary collaboration? The speakers will share their ideas and experiences as research leaders at interdisciplinary centers at Aarhus University.

Speakers: Andreas Roepstorff, professor and director, Interacting Minds Centre, Aarhus University and Peter Gorm Larsen, professor and head of the Centre for Digitalisation, Big Data and Data Analytics, DIGIT, Aarhus University.
