Abstract
The hippocampus plays a well-established role in memory, however the specific mechanisms underlying processing of individual memory components are not yet fully understood. This seminar will discuss data on the cellular and circuit mechanisms by which spatial and temporal information is processed in hippocampal-cortical circuits, as well as mechanisms by which afferent hippocampal input from deep brain nuclei contributes to the encoding of negative valence. Focus will be on hippocampal-retrosplenial interactions underlying the formation, retrieval and persistence of negatively valenced memories, acquired through contextual and trace fear conditioning, and on the contribution of ventral tegmental-hippocampal afferents to the processing of negative valence.  The implication of the findings for disorders rooted in stress-related memories will be emphasized.

The talk will be of 45 minutes duration followed by 15 minutes of discussion.

It is possible to sign-up for a free sandwich before Sunday 20 January
