Poul Henning Jensen: "A journey with sticky stuff – from afterbirths to Parkinson’s disease brains”.

Abstract
The generation, presence and consequences of irregular protein aggregates in normal and abnormal situations has always fascinated me and been the focus of my research career.

The aggregation of the presynaptic protein alpha-synuclein is intimately involved in Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, collectively named synucleinopathies. I have studied many aspects of this protein since 1994. Currently my group is focusing how its expression is regulated, why and how it aggregates and how intracellular aggregates harm cells if they become too abundant. These experiments are conducted in experiments ranging from test tubes via animal models to human brain.

Venue: The Biochemistry Aud 6, buildings 1170-347.

Talks will be of 45 minutes duration followed by 15 minutes of discussion.
