Mindfulness er en metode til at være til stede her og nu og møde livet som det er på godt og ondt. Træning i mindfulness kan øge opmærksomhed, empati, glæde og robusthed.  Mental sundhed kan trænes, ligesom vi træner fysisk sundhed. Og mindfulness er en måde at være opmærksom på, som har vist sig at bedre sundhed.

Mindfulness-baseret stressreduktion(MBSR) er et veldokumenteret program til stressreduktion, udviklet i 1979 ved University of Massachusetts Medical School. Analyser publiceret i førende medicinske tidsskrifter viser, at MBSR kan hindre, at stress bliver til sygdom og reducerer symptomer på stress, angst, depression og smerter. De gavnlige effekter underbygges af hjerneforskning. Hjernens struktur og funktion ændres efter MBSR i områder, som står for regulering af stress.

Ved fyraftensmødet den 12. september vil Lone Overby Fjorback holde oplæg om den videnskabelige dokumentation for MBSR som metode til forbedring af mental sundhed og den praktiske anvendelighed af MBSR vil blive diskuteret og demonstreret med øvelser. Lokale oplyses senere til deltagerne.

Mental health can be exercised with mindfulness

Mindfulness is a method of being present in the here and now and meeting life for better or worse. Practice in mindfulness can increase attention, empathy, joy and robustness. Mental health can be practised just as we practise physical health. And mindfulness is a method of awareness which has been shown to improve health. Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) is a well-documented programme for stress reduction, developed in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Analyzes published in leading medical journals show that MBSR can prevent stress from becoming a disease and reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression and pain. The beneficial effects are supported by brain research. The structure and function of the brain is changed after MBSR in areas that regulate stress. At the after-work meeting on 12 September, Lone Overby Fjorback gives a presentation on the scientific substantiation of MBSR as an approach of improving mental health and the practical usefulness of MBSR will be discussed and demonstrated with exercises. The location will be announced to the participants at a later date.
