TITLE
Let's play together: The cognitive neuroscience of interpersonal synchrony in musical interaction.
ABSTRACT
Group music-making is a culturally ubiquitous form of social interaction that is remarkably complex from an action coordination perspective: Musical partners must produce intricate auditory-motor sequences synchronously with millisecond precision. My research uses musical interaction as a model of interpersonal synchrony, with a broader goal of understanding the processes by which humans synchronize the timing of rhythmic actions. In this talk I will present an overview of my research, focusing on key behavioural and neural factors that contribute to interpersonal synchrony.
