TITLE:

Dynamics of interaction in spontaneous dancing

ABSTRACT:

Physical entrainment is an essential part of many human activities, including music. In the presence of a rhythmic stimulus it is often even difficult to avoid some degree of motor entrainment. Group entrainment is evident in many social settings, including improvised dance such as commonly takes place in a club. In such setting, dancers may not necessarily make identical movements, necessitating the question of what constitutes entrainment in such a movement context. I will present our recent research on the dynamics of corporeal entrainment between dyads in a free dance setting. Specific question we have addressed are influence of musical genre on the dynamics of movement, effects of personality and trait empathy on interaction and entrainment in dyadic dance in a free movement context, as measured by perceptual and kinematic measures, and modelling of perceived movement interaction by kinematic features.

Music Research at the International Institute of Information Technology, India. Abstract:

ABSTRACT:

Cognitive Neurosciences of Music is a field unheard of in India, except a handful of researchers. The vast amounts of technical knowledge and skills at the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, makes it an ideal setting to work with undergraduate and graduate computer science and electronics & communication students to work on and develop brain analyses methods in various settings. I will present ongoing neuroscience-related work at IIIT related to the naturalistic paradigm and potential future projects in addition to providing a brief overview of a novel method of whole-brain functional connectivity simulation in resting state from structural connectivity.
