Music Perception in Electric Hearing - designing and testing two novel EEG paradigms for measuring music perception in cochlear implant users
Music listening with a cochlear implant (CI) is challenging due to the poor representation of fine-structure information. Therefore, extensive research has been initiated in the quest for better music perception with a CI.
To measure music perception of CI users, proper musical tests are needed and therefore, the purpose of Anne Sofie's research year has been to develop and validate two new musical EEG paradigms to be used in future CI research:
1. A musical multifeature mismatch negativity (MMN) paradigm presenting four deviants in four levels of magnitude in a no-standards configuration.
2. A free-listening paradigm presenting three ecological musical pieces.
At the defence, Anne Sofie will present preliminary results obtained from two groups of normal hearing participants, and discuss the validity and potential of the paradigms.
