New face at MIB: Pauline Cantou

New PhD student at MIB will examine how musical training may affect the maturing brain and the cognitive performance of healthy preadolescents.

Pauline graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the university of Toulouse and afterwards obtained her Master’s degree with honors in Cognitive Sciences at the University of Caen, Normandy. During her Master’s thesis and then as a research assistant, she conducted a neuroimaging study investigating the neural substrates of new musical abilities in Alzheimer’s patients. Later on, she took part in a research assessing the effects of meditation training on the ageing brain.

In parallel with her university studies, she completed a post grade of classical flute at the conservatory of Toulouse.

Pauline's PhD project aims to explore the neural basis of behavioral transfer effects observed from musical practice to other domains in early-adolescence using structural and functional MRI. More specifically, she will examine how a musical training may affect the maturing brain and the cognitive performance of healthy preadolescents in the prospect of supporting therapeutic musical intervention in children with learning difficulties, ADHD or autism.
