New face at MIB: Rebecca Scarratt

New intern at MIB investigating music and sleep.

14.09.2020 | Hella Kastbjerg

Rebecca Scarratt is a master’s student in Neurobiology from Radboud University, The Netherlands. She is currently doing her final internship project at MIB until January 2021. She has always been interested in combining neuroscience and music and is very happy to have the opportunity to do just that in Aarhus.

During her stay, she will mainly be investigating whether music can be an effective behavioural therapy for sleep onset insomnia patients alongside MIB postdoc Kira Vibe Jespersen. Although there have been many studies reporting a positive effect of music on sleep, there are still large inter-individual variability. Kira and Rebecca will be researching whether individuals that have a low resting state arousal while listening to music have a more positive reaction to the music therapy intervention compared to individuals with high resting state arousal when introduced to music. Rebecca will also conduct explorative research on the musical features of Spotify sleep playlists.
