Tomas is here as part of an Erasmus Mundus ACN student exchange to collaborate with Dr. Maria Witek and Professor Peter Vuust on a project investigating the pleasurable aspects of listening to groove music. Specifically, they are using behavioural methods and fMRI to study the interaction of rhythmic and harmonic complexity in eliciting pleasure and activating motor and reward centers in the brain.
Tomas is a PhD candidate in the Laboratory for Motor Learning and Neural Plasticity at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. Under the supervision of Dr. Virginia Penhune, he is studying the neural processes underlying predictive perceptual and motor timing in the context of musical rhythm.
