Luc Nijssen has joined the Takeuchi team at the start of March. He will work with Drs Toshiro Sakamoto and Chihiro Nakamoto in setting up the modified version of schema task in rats. Schemas, which are conceptual structures of memory, consist of past experiences and facts stored in our long-term memories. The formation of long-term memories in the neocortex has been thought to be a slow process. However, new information can be added to existing schemas very rapidly if this information is relevant to the schema. Luc is currently following his masters in medical biology - neurobiology in Nijmegen and previously ran the object space task in mice there.
