Aarhus University to strengthen relations with alums

Aarhus University will work to strengthen and develop relations with the university’s alums, who are important bearers of knowledge to society and a strong network for the university.

2020.08.19 | Lonni Klitgaard

The Business Committee has just approved a new alum strategy to strengthen joint and coordinated alumni efforts so that all of the university's alums, regardless of affiliation, feel they are part of the alum network.

The vision for our future work with alums is to give all alums the opportunity to participate in a life-long, mutually beneficial relationship with the university. Alums have a special relationship with AU, which enables them to contribute to many different contexts, both as an asset for our students and the university’s employees. We need to support this unique relationship in a way that enables us to make the most of the potential of alums in their interaction with the business community and society in general,"says Jette Hammer, head of Career, Alumni and CRM, Enterprise and Innovation.

Until now, only a few faculties have worked to strengthen relations with alums in a targeted and coordinated manner. But with the adoption of the new alum strategy, it has been decided that all of the university's alums will receive a basic package of communication and services from the university. In this connection, a cross-university alum committee will ensure that the central efforts go hand-in-hand with the initiatives that are already taking place locally.

The new alum initiative will include:

  • Creation of a newsletter for all alums to be issues 2-4 times a year
  • Development of alumner.au.dk
  • Coordinated recruitment campaigns to attract a larger share of AU’s alums. Currently only 22% of potential alums are members of the network.
  • Adaptation of system support to handle the university-wide alum network
  • Creation of general resources for alums, such as access to knowledge and networking, as well as professional resources and possibly a mentor scheme
  • Creation of resources for particular groups of alums, such as PhD grads and junior researchers, startups and international alums.

The university-wide alum initiative will be anchored in Enterprise and Innovation and will be launched in late 2020.
