CKD is a condition characterized by gradual loss of kidney function, which eventually can lead to kidney failure. The mechanisms underlying development of CKD are unclear. Prostaglandin PGE2 is known to affect kidney function through its receptors: EP1-EP4. The main part of this project consists in generate mice that lack the expression of EP specifically in the renal tubules. Furthermore, we will develop a CKD model on these mice to study the role of EP receptors on CKD.
Cristina Esteva-Font is a biologist interested in kidney physiology. She holds a PhD in Cellular Biology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Afterwards she was awarded a Fulbright postdoctoral fellowship to work on drug discovery and high-throughput screening to study the role of urea transporters at the University of California – San Francisco UCSF.

The AIAS Seminar is a session of seminars held by the AIAS fellow or by other speakers proposed by the fellows. In each seminar, one fellow will present and discuss his/her current research and research project, closing off with a question and discussion session.
All seminars are held in English.
