In 2014, the Occupational Medicine Clinic at the Regional Hospital West Jutland became Denmark’s first university clinic at Health, Aarhus University. A university clinic status is granted for a five-year period, and the clinic has just had its status extended following a thorough external assessment.

A university clinic is a research unit that carries out point-of-care research at the highest level. In order to become a university clinic at Aarhus University, the clinic must document significant research activity, among other things in the form of publication in international journals and the training and education of researchers.

Research lives up to the highest standards

The assessment committee comprised Professor Maria Albin (Stockholm), Professor Stein Knardahl (Oslo) and Professor Øyvind Omland (Aalborg). They write the following in their assessment:

  • The Occupational Medicine Clinic, Regional Hospital West Jutland, convincingly fulfils the criteria for an extension of its status as a university clinic at Aarhus University.

  • The Occupational Medicine Clinic’s strong collaborative relations with other hospitals and universities together with an ability to secure external funding for its research also receive high praise from the assessment committee.

Professor and Research Coordinator Johan Hviid Andersen from the Occupational Medicine Clinic is pleased with the extension.

“This extension is a recognition of our research and that it meets the highest standards. Over the next five years we will work to consolidate our research areas and to strengthen our collaboration with other departments in the region and internationally. Here we already have new initiatives in the pipeline.”

Research at the Occupational Medicine Clinic is part of NIDO | danmark at the Regional Hospital West Jutland.
