How can you prevent illnesses that follow from awkward ergonomics, fast working movements and handling heavy loads? This is the focus of Susanne Wulff Svendsen’s research. On 1 August she will take up a professorship at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University and the Department of Occupational Medicine, Regional Hospital West Jutland.
"I am really looking forward to the opportunities which this professorship entails and towards further collaboration with colleagues in the region. This research is important for people with physically demanding jobs and for the healthcare professionals who have to advise patients about their work capability. The research could also be important with regard to recognising occupational injuries," says Susanne Wulff Svendsen.
The Regional Hospital West Jutland has contributed to the professorship.
In her professorship, Susanne Wulff Svendsen will focus on diseases of the musculoskeletal system and other common diseases such as e.g. inguinal hernias.
"We need to study the impact of work-related factors and in particular find the factors that mean something for the development and course of diseases in the musculoskeletal system, so that our preventive efforts can be as effective as possible. In addition, the research must also show when work needs to be permanently changed and when special consideration for a limited period of time could be sufficient," explains Susanne Wulff Svendsen.
Susanne Wulff Svendsen is a medical specialist in occupational medicine and has a PhD degree from Aarhus University.
