AU and AUH get a new professor, centre chair in psychiatry

On 1 November 2014 Professor Per Hove Thomsen MD, DMSc will take up the position of professor, centre chair in psychiatry at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital.

In his daily work Per Hove Thomsen is affiliated with the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Centre as professor and consultant. With his appointment as professor, centre chair he will become deputy department head at the Department of Clinical Medicine.

Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital intend to expand the collaboration between clinical psychiatry and the university. Per Hove Thomsen has therefore been appointed as professor, centre chair.

In his daily work Per Hove Thomsen is affiliated with the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Centre as professor and consultant. Upon his appointment he will also become deputy department head at the Department of Clinical Medicine.

In his role as professor, centre chair Per Hove Thomsen will represent both adult and child and adolescent psychiatry in the collaboration between the psychiatric departments and professors at Aarhus University Hospital and the Department of Clinical Medicine.

In 1998 Per Hove Thomsen took up a newly created professorship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Aarhus University and for many years he has undertaken the day-to-day management of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Centre’s ADHD outpatient clinic, which also covers treatment of OCD and Tourette syndrome.

In his research he has worked on OCD, ADHD, eating disorders and autism. Per Hove Thomsen has focused on clinically-based research and in treatment studies he has attached great importance to the speedy implementation of results in the daily clinical practice.

Per Hove Thomsen became a medical specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry in 1996 and attained his MD the same year. His doctoral thesis dealt with obsessive-compulsive disorders in children and adolescents and the long-term perspectives of these disorders.
