Biomedical spin-out company from AU receives million-kroner grant

A completely new spin-out company has just been named the best biotech start-up – and has at the same time received DKK 2.5 million from The Novo Nordisk Foundation. The grant will be used to develop medicine that lowers cholesterol levels.

Only six months old and already named the best biotech start-up at the annual meeting of the Nordic Mentor Network for Entrepreneurship. The company name is Draupnir Bio and it can trace its roots back to the Department of Biomedicine at Aarhus University.

In addition to the award, Draupnir Bio has received a substantial grant from The Novo Nordisk Foundation which will be used to develop innovative cholesterol lowering medicine. This will be done with the help of advanced carbohydrate chemistry.

The project is a collaboration between Aarhus University, the Max Planck Institute and Draupnir Bio, which was founded by three biomedical researchers, Simon Glerup, Camilla Gustafsen and Peder Madsen.
