When we are attacked by viruses such as Covid-19, we produce antibodies in the blood to fight the disease. However, in the case of people with chronic disorders, the immune system needs help. Martin Tolstrup conducts research at the Department of Infectious Diseases at Aarhus University Hospital into the best treatment options to fight viral infections. In this context, it is a question of helping our immune system, and this is an area in which vaccines in particular are very important.

For this reason, Martin Tolstrup examines the correlation between vaccination with RNA vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech, and the immunity and degree of protection that we acquire against Covid-19. Martin Tolstrup also conducts research into the use of specific antibodies to treat both Covid-19, as well as patients with chronic viral infections such as HIV-1, where the immune system needs extra help to effectively remove the infection.
