We are relaunching the DANDRITE writing club! Especially new students that haven’t tried this way of working before are strongly encouraged to show up and try out the concept. It is definitely not too soon to start writing that BSc/MSc/PhD thesis, and you should test whether this method works for you. This is also a good way of getting to know people from other labs.
DANDRITE Team Leader and PROMEMO PI Magnus Kjaergaard will facilitate the Writing Club.
Introduction: A bunch of us have projects that need to be written up and therefore I will arrange a writing group. Many people experience writing as lonely tasks where it is difficult to maintain focus. I personally find that writing in a group makes me more productive, and if you haven’t tried it I think you should give it a go. After all, writing is a key part of an academic career and it is important to learn to do it both well and efficiently early on.
Where and when: We will have the next writing session on Friday the 28/2 from 10-12. You are welcome to attend the part that works for you. We have chosen the venue based on the quality of the coffee in the building, so we will be in Skou 1116-348A. I plan to organize a writing group on the last Friday of each month from 9-12.
How it works: We work independently on a shared schedule of ~25min writing/reading (in silence) followed by a 5min talking/moving break. This time-frame is chosen to follow time management & productivity theory ideas, e.g. the Pomodoro Technique. Everybody works on their own personal writing projects (e.g. manuscripts, proposals, coding). After a few of these rounds, we may take a longer break. That's it! Some prefer to bring along headphones, others find the sound of typing/writing motivating.
Can I come even if I am not writing up a fancy paper, but merely need to concentrate on less glamorous computer work?: Yes!
