Jesper Grau Eriksen has just received the Emmanuel van der Schueren Award – named after the medical doctor who brought together radiotherapy in Europe and founded the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO).

The award is one of the most prestigious in European radiotherapy and is given to the most prominent researchers within the field. The grounds for the award state that the Danish researcher receives it “in recognition of excellent scientific work and the promotion of radiation oncology as a discipline in Europe.”

Among other areas, Jesper Grau Eriksen conducts research into the cancers that return despite the patient completing a course of radiotherapy. The objective is tailor-made radiotherapy treatment, in this way ensuring better control of the cancer and minimising the side effects of the treatment. In Denmark, 1,500 patients are annually affected by cancer of the mouth, pharynx and throat.
