The Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University has just named Connie Sanchez Morillo as honorary professor of experimental neuropharmacology. She is employed as a researcher at Lundbeck Research in New Jersey, USA, and conducts research into the biological mechanisms underlying diseases of the central nervous system and how this knowledge can be used for the development of better medicinal products. Her focus area is research into depression and the development of medicines to treat the disease.
"I am honoured to see the quality of my research recognised by the university in this way. I hope that through the professorship I can help to increase the synergies between the applied research which I represent through my industrial research, and the university's basic research," says Connie Sanchez Morillo.
She hopes that her research can help to improve the treatment options being offered to patients suffering from a depression in the future.
"A better understanding of the disease and the way in which the medicine works will hopefully make it possible to develop medicine that take into account the needs of the individual patient to a greater degree," explains Connie Sanchez Morillo.
Connie Sanchez Morillo has worked in the Lundbeck research organisation since 1981. She has a higher doctoral degree in pharmacy from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen.
