Bent Deleuran receives the award for his research into what happens when the immune system misunderstands its task and attacks the body's healthy cells instead of taking on extraneous bacteria. This is what happens in the case of e.g. rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis of the spine and psoriatic arthritis.

Through his research, the award recipient has also made it possible for women with rare connective tissue diseases such as SLE/Lupus to become pregnant. By monitoring the women extremely closely and constantly adapting the treatment to the individual patient, Bent Deleuran has contributed to many of them being able to achieve their dream of becoming a mother.

Together with the Queen Ingrid Research Prize, which is founded and awarded by the Danish Rheumatism Association, Bent Deleuran received DKK 100,000 towards his research.
