On Tuesday 28 May Dr. Nelson Gekara, from the Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS), Umeå/Sweden will give a talk in the I&I International Seminar series entitled:
“Cross-talks between the DNA damage response and Innate Immunity”
BackgroundNelson Gekara works at the interphase between cell biology and innate immunology, and is interested in understanding how alteration of cellular homeostasis evokes immune activation. This is of central importance for a large range of pathological conditions, including infections and cancer. Dr. Gekara has made major contributions to this field in recent years and is one of the leading figures in this emerging field. For instance, he was the first to provide a mechanistic explanation for how DNA damage induces the expression of cytokines normally implicated in antimicrobial activity, and how this response in fact does impact on host defense.
