Infections put under the microscope with new grant

Søren Degn from Aarhus University has received a Carlsberg Foundation Distinguished Fellowship and a grant of DKK 1.4 million. The money will partly be used to study a mechanism which helps to balance the immune system's ability to respond to and resist infections.

Infectious diseases and autoimmune diseases are a global health challenge. A new research project will investigate how the immune system responds to and resists infections, while at the same time preventing autoimmune reactions in relation to our own tissue.

When the immune system attacks the body's healthy tissue and cells, what are known as autoimmune diseases can develop.

Søren Degn from the Department of Biomedicine at Aarhus University will head the project.
