Jane Kraglund will be the new university director at Aarhus University

Jane Kraglund, age 54, has been appointed university director at Aarhus University. Kraglund is currently hospital chief executive officer at Odense University Hospital. She will begin her work at Aarhus University on 1 January.

At the meeting of the board of directors held on 5 November, there was unanimous support for the rector's recommendation to offer Jane Kraglund the position of university director at Aarhus University.

“In Jane Kraglund, Aarhus University is gaining an extremely competent administrative leader and member of the senior management team. She has documented impressive results, and as a manager, she is straightforward and accessible,” says Michael Christiansen, chairman of the Aarhus University Board.

Kraglund has been hospital CEO at Odense University Hospital for five years. She has also served as health director for Region of Southern Denmark and county health director for the former South Jutland County. Her professional history has given her solid experience in managing and developing large, complex organisations.

Kraglund was awarded a Master’s degree in political science at Aarhus University in 1988.

“Jane Kraglund is a really good match for the position of university director at Aarhus University, by virtue of both her professional competences and her personal traits, and in relation to the challenges we face in ensuring that the administration is coherent and transparent. I’m very much looking forward to working with her,” says Rector Brian Bech Nielsen.

The university director is a member of the senior management team,which is responsible for the day-to-day management of Aarhus University, along with the rector, the pro-rector and the deans of the four faculties. As university director, Kraglund will head the university’s administration.  

“I’m really looking forward to the job and to returning to Aarhus University, where I graduated with a Master’s degree in 1988. The university is quite a special, complex organisation that plays a very important role in society. This places great demands on both the employees and the management. I’m looking forward to being part of the senior management team and to working with the employees,” says Kraglund.

  • Kraglund is currently hospital chief executive officer at Odense University Hospital (OUH). Prior to her position at OUH, she had many years of experience as health director for the Region of Southern Denmark  and county health director for the former South Jutland County.
  • Kraglund is intimately familiar with academia, and research has been one of her focus areas for a number of years. She is a member of the University of Southern Denmark’s (SDU) representative council and has been active of OUH’s research council and the SDU-OUH strategy committee. In the Region of Southern Denmark, she chaired the regional research council.
  • Kraglund is married and has three children.
