Newly published results from the SnartForældre.dk (SoonParents) study show that a large proportion of women trying to conceive do not comply with the Danish National Board of Health’s recommendations of 400 ug daily intake of folic acid. According to the results, there is an association between other risk behavior such as smoking, increased alcohol consumption, overweight and low physical activity and the reduced likelihood of taking folic acid before pregnancy. The results have been published in the online journal Clinical Epidemiology.
