With experience as, among other things, study rector at the technical upper secondary school, director of the board of studies secretariat at the Department of Economics and Business at Aarhus University, and most recently as coordination manager for the study administration area in the campus towns outside of Odense at the University of Southern Denmark, Marianne Breinhild Johansen feels she is ready to take up the position as Head of Studies Administration at Aarhus University Health.

"Everything is still so new. But I have now met most of the studies administration staff at Health and I already feel that it’s going to be really good working here," she says on her first day at work and continues:

"I'm really looking forward to working with study administration in the field of health sciences. Even though I have experience of study administration, I will be spending a lot of time listening and gaining knowledge from the staff around me."

Part of the university city

As the new Head of Studies Administration, Marianne Breinhild Johansen must ensure that Health's approx. 4,000 students have the best possible framework, from admission to enrolment, student guidance on both the Danish Students’ Grants and Loans Scheme Office (SU) and study programmes, examination administration, study programme development, quality assurance, accreditation and the like.

"By collaborating we can find out how to make study administration easier. We are here for the sake of the students and we need to put ourselves in their place. That requires dialogue and sparring between the students, the academic staff and the technical and administrative staff, so that we can ultimately find the best solutions," says Marianne Breinhild Johansen.

One of the first tasks facing Marianne Breinhild Johansen is the implementation of the study progress reform.

"The reform must be implemented in study administrative terms. We must inform the students about the new rules that have been adopted and we need to be ready to advise them, so that they do not end up in deep water when it comes to completing their study programmes," she says.

Marianne Breinhild Johansen lives in Mårslet near Aarhus. She loves Aarhus and has lived in the city for over 30 years. She also originally graduated from the Aarhus School of Business in Aarhus as a state-authorised translator and interpreter in English.
