PhD student Nanna Møller Jensen has in collaboration with associate professor Sara Elfarrash at Mansoura University, Egypt, and researchers from the Nabavi lab at Dandrite and prof. Morten Meyers lab at University of Southern Denmark published the paper “Polo-like kinase 2 inhibition reduces serine-129 phosphorylation of physiological nuclear alpha-synuclein but not of the aggregated alpha-synuclein” in Plos One. The paper demonstrates how PLK-2 phosphorylates nuclear a-synuclein and how the use of PLK-2 inhibitors can increase the signal to noise ratio for detection of pathological aggregated alpha-synuclein phosphorylated at Serine129.
