On Friday 23 April at 10:00, Pelle Emil Hanberg defends his PhD dissertation entitled "Peri- and Post-operative Influence of Tourniquet Application on Cefuroxime Tissue Concentrations and Tissue Ischemia".
Antibiotics are an integral part of infection prophylaxis in orthopaedic surgery, and tourniquets are widely used during many of those same surgeries. The timing of antibiotic administration in relation to tourniquet use has long been debated. Furthermore, Tourniquet use has been associated with multiple adverse effects related to tourniquet induced tissue ischemia. The objective with this PhD project was, therefore, to validate and apply microdialysis in order to evaluate the effects of tourniquet application on both peri- and post-operative cefuroxime and ischemic metabolite concentrations in bone, muscle and subcutaneous tissues.
The summary is written by the PhD student.
The defence is public and takes place online via Zoom. Please read the attached press release for more information.
