Award winner makes a difference for patients with colorectal cancer

Lene Hjerrild Iversen, professor and consultant at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital, has been awarded the Lippmann Prize 2019. As a surgeon and cancer researcher, she receives the award in recognition of the difference she makes – in particular for patients with colorectal cancer.

Professor and PrConsultant Lene Hjerrild Iversen is this year's recipient of the Lippmann-prize.

When the recipient of the Lippmann Award was announced in connection with the recent annual meeting of the Danish Surgical Society, Lene Hjerrild Iversen's name was read out. In the grounds for the award the society states that she has placed education and continuing education within her field on the agenda, but also research and surgical skill.

Lene Hjerrild Iversen has succeeded in promoting research into colorectal cancer and colorectal surgery, both nationally and internationally, and her epidemiological research projects include studies of international variations in survival rates following colorectal cancer and the occurrence of the spreading of colorectal cancer. She also carries out research into patient involvement in connection with follow-ups after surgery for colorectal cancer that has spread to the peritoneum. 

The award includes a DKK 50,000 cash prize.
