Aarhus University has selected an internal candidate as the next dean of the Faculty of Health. Professor Anne-Mette Hvas, who has just been appointed dean of the Faculty of Health, is currently deputy head of the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University as well as a consultant in the blood testing and biochemistry unit at Aarhus University Hospital. Professor Hvas was selected on the background of her deep knowledge of the university and her solid ties to the healthcare sector, both regionally and nationally. In the words of Rector Brian Bech Nielsen:

“Anne-Mette Hvas has a convincing vision for how Health and AU can continue to develop the university’s core tasks within research and education in addition to making an even greater contribution to society, for example by contributing to innovation in the life sciences. She is also a skilled leader with the ability to get people from different units to work together, and she has proven that she can translate visions into action. I’m confident that Anne-Mette Hvas, with her attitude and highly-developed ability motivate others to do their best, can realise the high expectations we have for the continued development of the Faculty of Health.”

Anne-Mette Hvas is 56 years old. She earned her medical degree from Aarhus University in 1994, qualified as a medical specialist in clinical biochemistry in 2005 and was appointed professor in 2013. Throughout her career, she has had a particular interest in research ethics and the responsible conduct of research, and is currently a member of the Danish Committee on Research Misconduct. Since 2020, she has served as deputy department head, with responsibility for the department’s research and talent development activities.

She’s now looking forward to leading the way at the Faculty of Health.

"As dean, I will draw on all my knowledge and experience as a researcher and leader to make Health's visions a reality. I look forward to working with the departments at the faculty, and I'm looking forward to contributing to the entire university's activities and mission of creating world-class degree programmes and the best conditions for research,” Anne-Mette Hvas said.

Anne-Mette Hvas will succeed Lars Bo Nielsen, who left Aarhus University to become director of the Danish Medicines Agency in August 2021.
