The Lundbeck Foundation has awarded 2 mio. DKK in funding to DANDRITE team leader and PROMEMO PI Magnus Kjærgaard for the project “De novo engineering of a plasticity-related protein”. The funding comes from the “Lundbeck Experiment” grant scheme that rewards original, high-risk ideas.
“This project aims to understand why proteins migrate to specific synapse when they are stimulated,” Magnus explains, “but instead of studying natural brain proteins, we are going to design new proteins from scratch that have this property. It will be a beautiful marriage between neuroscience and synthetic biology”.
In addition to the Kjærgaard group, the project is also going to involve a collaboration with PROMEMO PI Sadegh Nabavi’s laboratory.
