Neuropathic pain, pain physiology and treatment are the focal point for Nanna Brix Finnerup’s research. She has now been appointed professor of pain research at the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University.

"The research builds bridges between basic physiology, experimental pain research and the clinical aspect. My focus is on chronic neuropathic pain, which is the pain that occurs after injuries to the nervous system," says Nanna Brix Finnerup, who has particular focus on understanding the mechanisms for the development of chronic pain.

She hopes that the research can contribute to optimising pain diagnostics and improving treatment, among other things by carrying out clinical trials.

"In the long-term our research will be able to benefit patients with chronic pain, for example patients with neuropathic pain as a consequence of diabetes or chemotherapy, patients with chronic pain following trauma or surgery, or following spinal cord injuries or other diseases which can cause chronic pain", says Nanna Brix Finnerup

She is pleased that the professorship provides her with the opportunity to continue to support the training of junior researchers and to expand the Danish Pain Research Center’s interdisciplinary research environment.
