She spent four months at the University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry. And that was enough time for Trine Wulff to impress her American colleagues. She has just received the "Special Recognition Certificate for Excellence in the Care of the Geriatric and Special Needs Patient." The prize was awarded for her clinical skills, motivation to learn and the way in which she treated a very complex patient group.

"I am very pleased and proud of this recognition. The prize is a big pat on the back and it encourages me to continue learning and developing myself within the dentistry profession," says Trine Wulff, who has now qualified as a dentist.

In her time as an exchange student treated both mentally and physically disabled and elderly patients taking extensive medication.

"They have other pressing needs and I think that the prize confirms that we, as dentists, can make a difference for these people. It is a great motivating factor for me. At the same time, for me the prize also underlines how important care and consideration is in the treatment of patients.

During her time at the university in the USA, Trine Wulff completed three rotations and worked at Pediatric Dentistry (children), Operative Dentistry (filling therapy), Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She received the prize for her time in the Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry department.
