The Danish Cardiovascular Academy (DCAcademy) is a new national initiative to promote research and research programmes in the cardiovascular field. The academy’s vision is for an increased research effort to improve the quality of life of cardiovascular patients through greater knowledge about diagnosing, treating and preventing cardiovascular diseases. The academy’s secretariat is located at the Department of Biomedicine. It is supported by DKK 150 million from the Novo Nordisk Foundation and DKK 30 million from the Danish Heart Foundation.

Over the coming five years, 100 scholarships and fellowships will be awarded (PhD and postdoc). The mission is to ensure high-quality interdisciplinary research within the cardiovascular field. At the same time, the academy also creates an academic network.

”We hope to give the junior researchers who receive one of our scholarships or fellowships a solid foundation in the form of education and network, which are very important for their future career,” says Christian Aalkjær, Executive Managing Director, Danish Cardiovascular Academy.

Applications are open for the first twenty scholarships with deadline 10 September 2021.

PhD scholarships:

  • Six scholarships in the form of either 1/3 or 2/3 scholarships amounting to DKK 550,000 and DKK 1,100,000, respectively.
  • Six full scholarships supported by the Danish Heart Foundation of DKK 1,650,000. These scholarships will primarily be given to clinical research in the areas of prevention and public health.

Postdoctoral fellowships:

  • Four full-time fellowships of DKK 1,150,000.
  • A total of four five-year fellowships for 20 per cent working time with focus on clinical research supported by the Danish Heart Foundation, each amounting to DKK 575,000.

The DCAcademy also offers courses and events, which provide researchers with good professional tools and a strong academic network. All researchers in the field can participate in these events, which will be announced via the academy’s website and in its newsletter.
