Thursday 19 November at 14:00, Sif Sund Blandfort defends her PhD dissertation entitled "A comparison between the use of single-bed rooms and multiple-bed rooms as predictors of delirium and falls in hospitalized geriatric patients".

Delirium in older patient is a serious complication, which entails a significant increased risk of death, functional impairment, and a need of nursing home residence. In March 2017, a geriatric department moved from old hospital buildings with multiple-bed rooms to a new hospital with single-bed rooms without changes in uptake area, staff, and patients’ group. This provided an outstanding opportunity to study the incidence of delirium and falls as well as the consumption of analgesics and psychoactive drugs in geriatric patients in multiple-bed rooms compared to single-bed rooms.

The summary is written by the PhD student.

The defence is public and takes place online, meet.rm07@rooms.rm.dk. Please read the attached press release for more information.
