How is an exciting new idea transferred from the laboratory to the patients? This question provided the framework for the two-day workshop run by a strong team of experienced employees from Novo Nordisk for participants in the research-orientated honours programme, among others.
The workshop programme included a number of presentations by representatives from different sections of the large pharmaceutical company, covering everything from basic research and preclinical and clinical testing to product registration and monitoring of side effects. The students were also challenged with various cases, including trying their hand at planning phase 1, 2 and 3 clinical trials.
Participants also had to attempt to work out how a drug that had so far been sold as an injection could instead be turned into a pill, thus making it easier to administer for the patient.
"It's great to see so many competent employees from Novo Nordisk spending their time visiting us and teaching our students from different fields of study. They generously share their scientific knowledge and, at the same time, demonstrate the enormous diversity you’ll meet working in a private pharmaceutical company. And a workshop like this also gives our junior talents a unique opportunity to network with some of the people who are at the forefront of the field when it comes to pharmaceutical development," says Vice-Dean for Research and Talent Development Lise Wogensen Bach.
