On Friday 9 April at 14.30, Kevin Kris Warnakula Olesen defends his PhD dissertation entitled "Cardiovascular Disease In Patients With And Without Diabetes - Studies From The Western Denmark Heart Registry".
Diabetes is associated with an increased cardiovascular risk. Previously, patient with diabetes were assumed to have the same high risk of myocardial infarction as a patients with previous myocardial infarction. However, about 1 in 4 patients with diabetes examined by coronary angiography do not have coronary artery disease. Cardiovascular risk in diabetes patients in the absence of obstructive coronary artery disease is largely unexplored.
The aim of this PhD project was to estimate the cardiovascular risk in diabetes and non-diabetes patients with and without coronary artery disease following coronary examination. The study cohort consisted of consecutive, real-world patients examined by coronary angiography or coronary computed tomography angiography in Western Denmark, as well as an age and sex matched sample from the general Western Danish population.
The summary is written by the PhD student.
The defence is public and takes place online via Zoom. Please read the attached press release for more information.
