AU introduces two-step authentication on AU-ACCESS (VPN)

If you use AU-Access (VPN) to access a number of AU services from home, please note that the university introduces two-step authentication from 1 May 2020. This means that you must set up two-step authentication before 1 May in order to be able to continue to use VPN.

As of 1 May 2020, AU-Access (VPN) will require two-step authentication. If you use VPN, you must set up two-step authentication before 1 May to be able to connect.

How to get started

If you use VPN, you can find a two-step authentication setup guide here: https://studerende.au.dk/en/it-support/vpn/

To set up two-step authentication, you will need:

  • your computer
  • your smartphone

What is two-step authentication?

Two-step authentication means that you add extra protection when you log on to a system or a service. In future, when you connect via AU-Access using two-step authentication, you must log in using your AU ID and your password as usual, and then accept the login via an app on your smartphone.

Two-step authentication has become standard for many of the services that we use online, for example Google, Apple and Facebook. AU introduces two-step authentication in order to comply with the rules in AU’s information security policy.
